Not only did I get a real, genuine hot match for one of my three unrelated Brown families, but I got a reply too! I must confess that I'm not actively researching them, and when I actually looked at tree matches I found another distant cousin, but I suppose it is proof that hot matches can work, eventually. |

Lucky old you - I got my FIRST genuine Hotmatch query the other day. Absolutely definitely the same person and four matching siblings. That was a fortnight ago. Nothing. Had another yesterday. Sadly its not as exciting as I thought. A genuine match but so far back (1701) its nearly out of sight. She is a sibling of my direct line, she married and promptly died without issue! Oh well, at least I can give her a death date now. Olde Crone |

I'm obviously honoured. I get matches for my Browns, Edwards, Marshall, Skillings and Tickner. But no other names and this is only the third time GR has found a match before I have. |

Not that I'd ever bother myself, but it would sometimes be nice to know which names are being actively researched, and which are there for completeness. I keep on finding step children, brother in law's third wife etc. And it gave me the shock of my life when I discovered my Uncle Jim on someone's tree as not only did he die childless, but he is related to me both by blood and by marriage, so I tend to forget the latter link. |

Brenda, you have Browns??? I never get any matches for mine. Can't seen to get past Banks and Birch. Eight pages of them, can't be ars*d going throught the whole lot. I had a novel message the other day Heather. Read............'this could be interesting. Can I see your tree?' How rude!! I didn't bother to reply. Rebs x |

I had one yesterday - and I cant say he was aggressive, but these people seem to think everyone with the same name is related and probably dont research anywhere else at all 'Can I see your tree please' 'Who are you interested in on my tree please' 'Alice Martin' 'And who is Alice Martin on your tree please and can you give me her place of birth and her parents/siblings names' 'Can I see your tree please' 'Sorry, but I have a lot of personal information on there that I dont show to people unless I am sure of a connection' 'Her dad was George. Can I see your tree please' And so on and on it went and in the end, he really had no information at all that was even vaguely connected. I just cant think what they expect to find on your tree when there isnt any obvious connection. |

A quite pleasent American lady said we had a Hot Match and would I let her see my tree? She had given me access to her tree, so I took a look and saw the name match.......Here's born in Maine, USA and mine born in Bow, City of London. So, I politely explained that the place of birth was somewhat different (plus different spouse and parents!), so no I would not open my tree to her. The following day she asked me again. I said there would be no point (etc). The following day she asked me again I didn't reply. This morning she asked me why I won't open my tree?? Am just contemplating my possible reply..........!! Wow!!! Whenever I see a Brown in mine I more or less automatically delete it, so if there ever was a genuine one I probably wouldn't notice it anyway. Having said that, my cousin did turn up in my Hot Matches at the weekend. And he hasn't replied to my message yet!!! Rebs - could your correspondent have been one of those newbs who thinks that their hot matches are messages that have been sent to him / her by the person whose tree has the match in it, and so he / she thought they were replying to you? I have had a few of those. Oh, and Fi... it probably means that the other person has deleted that name from their tree. Kate. |

My great grandparents were obviously thinking of hot matches, Baines, Blacker, Cavill and Cox. Pity about Wilton and Withers. |
