George, I don't know if this is significant to you but I have found Winifred Nellie Neil, June q 1907, Islington, Volume 1b, Page 233. I looked for Neil babies from 1905 to 1912 ( with exception of a couple of missing quarters) and Winifred is the only babe registered in Islington? Something or nothing, I don't know.... Lisa

Sorry if this is stating the obvious - but do you remember your mother's [and/or your aunt's] birithdays? Knowing the exact date, would make it easier to find them. Victoria

George if their birth certs were destroyed in a fire, the originals will still be held. Have you tried the ancestry bmd beta index for these girls?

Linda Report 20 Mar 2006 15:17

Hi George: Have you contacted the Catholic Children's Society for help? Children weren't always placed in the area where they lived. In 1905, my great aunts were placed in a convent in Penzance (although they were living in Lewisham when their mother died). Their brothers were separated and placed in two different orphanages, one in Brighton and the other in Eltham. Linda
