The marriage certificate is at home so I'll have to have a look again tonight and post again when at work tomorrow. And I'm going to grill my aunt later as to the Irish thing! Birkenhead is near Liverpool I think (my geography isn't great either so I might be wrong). But then this would make sense with what my aunt has mentioned. Apparently Malcolm came from County Mayo and mover to Liverpool then Hull. Maybe it did happen like that but just a generation or so further back. Wishing I had started this when my Nan was alive! Fingers crossed these are the right people.

Maybe that's why I can't find them in 1901? They went to Ireland (Or Scotland as Orr seems to be Scottish)? I think getting the birth cert is the only way to go backwards. We can make educated guesses, but (as I've learned from experience) they are not always correct.

I found a marraige between Francis Orr and Jane A Costello on Yorkshire BMB for the same year. I'm following some info my aunt gave me. She believes that Malcolm was born in County Mayo, Ireland but after finding a Malcolm Orr and Francis Orr on Yorkshire BMD I'm thinking they didn't come from Ireland (I've searched a few irish sites and cannot find a mention of either of them!) So do I take a gamble and get the birth cert for Malcolm from Yorkshire BMD? I'm pretty sure that Francis and Jane will be the parents but how do I prove that it is the correct Malcolm in the first place?!? Maybe I have overcomplicated this and the answer is staring me in the face!!

Hi Kimberley Have a Francis Orr married to a Jane Ann living in Birkenhead on the 1891 census, my geography of that area is not 100% but don't think it's too far away. Sculcoates is now split between Hull and East Riding districts. I have the image from the 1891 if you want it private message me with your email addy and I'll send it. Had a look can't find a Jane Ann on the 1901 either. Regards Looby

I can't find Malcolm or Francis in 1901 or Francis in 1891. There are hardly any Orrs in Sculcoates.

Hi Kimberley Can't see them on the census, but believe this could be the ref for Malcolms birth: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Births Mar 1894 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Orr Malcolm Sculcoates 9d 175 Think Sculcoates is the right area for you - at least this would give you mothers full name. Sorry can't see it on census at all. Regards Looby
