been to Microsoft and this is what it says, I love the bit about protecting your PC against slow performance when thats what is has done!!!! Brief Description Windows Defender (Beta 2) is a free program that helps you stay productive by protecting your computer against pop-ups, slow performance and security threats caused by spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Beta Support Policy: This is pre-release (beta) software distributed for feedback and testing purposes. Microsoft only provides best effort support through the newsgroups. If Windows Defender (Beta 2) is causing an issue with your system, we recommend removing it by using Add or Remove Programs and even using System Restore if the problem persists. It then goes on to say if you already have giant Spyware installed you must unintsall that first beofre installing this update |

Val, I went to bed at 9.30 - knackered. Son has been on here since 5 p.m. at the same time talking to his dozey girlfriend for hours. This is the kid who is overdrawn and has phone bills up to £800. At 12.05,. as I am still trying to sleep and they are arguing on the phone, she phones again. I went ballistic. I told him Ive had enough, I am knackered, I have to get up at 6 just to get you up and tell that dozey cow to stop phoning at midnight. He has gone off in a strop and now I am so wound up I cant sleep. |

oh never mind Heather you can stay on here longer and it should be easier to access the 1841 as most sensible people are asleep, hence why I am still on here !!!. The trouble is I dont come on here till late must keep hubby company sometimes ,and the time goes so quick, I dont get to bed till late .But instead of doing my own research I am too busy reading everybodys threads, some are so interesting and yours are so funny. Sleep tight when you do get to bed . |

Since I uploaded the Explorer 7 Beta Preview updates I have seen various odd problems. The most annoying was Outlook Express which kept prompting for a password each time you tried to do something. All the usual tips to stop it happening failed. I have now uninstalled the update and things appear back to normal. So beware - it is a Beta upgrade so not yet fully proven and tested. |

Don't know if it's the same update, but I got a message that looked like a microsoft update the other day. As I'm fairly computer illiterate I just looked at it. My virus scan flashed up saying it wasn't from microsoft and to blacklist it. It looked real to me. I'm in Australia so don't know if that's what you've got or something else. |

Hi Elizabeth no it was definitely a Microsoft update its called Defender .It seems its in a trial period, which is why it caused problems. I have a very good anti virus programme I hope. Good luck ,lucky your anti virus spotted it |
