Helen, Yes I agree, it shouldn't be put on the web if its not correct. I was going to look into that more tomorrow, but any help with correcting the info would be appreciated, thankyou. Mistranscriptions I can cope with (up to a point!) but incorrect details like this need to be put right. I am going to double check with the RO tomorrow though! I want to be absolutley sure that there was no marraige in Southampton. Thankyou again to all!! What would I do without you!! Sue

Thankyou to all of you....I'm very gratefull! I think it has now been resolved...I will be double checking with the Hampshire RO tomorrow. It looks as if Jacqy (once related by marriage) has put this on the web and has been picked up by other web-sites. My in-laws know that they married in the USA!! and were most surprised when I turned up the marraige in Southampton! Thanks again to all, Sue ps... Phoenix- have sent you a pm to try to explain!...

Montmorency

Montmorency Report 2 May 2006 19:18

It's one of a whole batch of Faull entries submitted by Jacqy Faull. Southampton 2c 43 is Annie's birth ref (1896). Most likely Jacqy has accidentally put this in her records as the marriage ref, there not being any real English marriage ref.

It would help if I could spell! I think what has happened is that someone has entered their personal one name study. One of my Skillings married a Faull in 1947, according to freebmd and it gave me the shock of my life to see it entered so late. The reference looks perfectly genuine, so it is probably another quarter or a different year. Use the beta index for the other quarters on 1923, then try some other years. Good luck!

Eileen.. Yes I'd seen that entry, Frederick is a very distant relation (or so I've been told by the Jacqy mention in Lesley's reply). Lesley... Thankyou for finding him on free BMD ....intersting that it was transcibed by Jacqy Faull That seems to shed a glimmer of light! Can't say too much on here...if you get my drift.. Sue

Mandy in Wiltshire

Mandy in Wiltshire Report 2 May 2006 19:09

Might not mean anything at all - clutching at straws here! - but one of the previous replies has given the name of the transcriber as 'Jacqy Faull'. Is it just a coincidence that the transcriber has the same unusual surname as the person on the record??! Mandy

Hi Phoenix, Sorry, was on phone to mother-in-law, hoping that some light could be shed on this.. I wondered if someone had added this entry by mistake from USA records.Annie (her name was Edith Annie) was born in Southampton. But not sure if it was possible. Thanks for your thoughts. Sue

Lesley M Report 2 May 2006 18:57

It doesn't help you at all, but the entry is on FreeBMD Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages Jun 1923 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FAULL Arthur Groves MUNRO Southampton 2c 43 Transcribed by Jacqy Faull

Grandma6

Grandma6 Report 2 May 2006 18:55

There is a Frederick Faull who married Janice Gidden in the 2nd qtr of 1923 in Southampton 2c 5. could be related. Eileen

That is completely bizarre. The entry is not on Freebmd, so it can't come from there. I wonder if it is an individually entered item which has somehow found its way onto Ancestry? Freebmd quote the original transcriber, but Ancestry never give detailed information about sources, so you can't tell.

Hi Andrea, Yes, now thats a good idea, been puzzling over this for a while and hadn't thought of that...duh! Thankyou, will give them a ring tomorrow. I told the lady on the phone from the GRO that the info had to have come from somewhere, but she just fobbed me off with a mistranscription tale. Sue

You could apply for it from Southampton register office, the info had to come from somewhere!!

I would welcome your opinions on the following, as its got me puzzled! This is the marriage in question: Arthur Groves Faull 1923 Apr-May-Jun Munro Southampton Hampshire Annie Munro 1923 Apr-May-Jun Faull Southampton Hampshire Name: Arthur Groves Faull Year of Registration: 1923 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun Spouse's Surname: Munro District: Southampton County: Hampshire Volume: 2c Page: 43 (click to see others on page) The problem is that it doesn't appear on the image page . But I did send for the certificate anyway, but I had a phone call from the GRO to say that they can't find this and it was probably mistranscribed. Ok, now that would sound plausible but for the fact that Arthur Groves Faull and Annie Munro were in the USA, they were married there in 1923. And the fact that the name is quite unique. The other coincidence is that Southampton fits with the family. Solving this would put a (friendly) argument to rest. Sue
