Sorry! Just realised I had leapt ahead a couple of generations when I said Richman! Of course, Thompson is not so unusual....but I still think your John Thompson m to Charlotte Deplidge seems a good match!

Natalie Report 6 May 2006 18:32

Thanks for doing all these look-ups on my behalf, Helen. I hadn't spotted the marriage, and as Richman is a fairly unusual name, I think that's very likely. The Haley family you have found are what I have found, and it seems the most likely, but without a marriage reference for Robert Thompson & Sarah Shaw Haley, I can't be completely sure. Then again one of the sons of Robert and Sarah S Thompson has middle name Haley, and two of their Grandchildren do, so it all seems to fit into place......but is this enough evidence?? It's so frustrating! Thanks for all your help. Natalie

These are all children of John & Charlotte in Darfield ELIZA THOMPSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 18 JAN 1807 Darfield, Yorkshire, MARY THOMPSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 31 DEC 1809 Darfield, Yorkshire, CHARLOTTE THOMPSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 28 JAN 1816 Darfield, Yorkshire, SARAH THOMPSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 15 JUL 1821 Darfield, Yorkshire, ROBERT TOMPSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 30 APR 1826 Darfield, Yorkshire, And a possible marriage JOHN THOMPSON Marriages: Spouse: CHARLOTTE DEPLIDGE Marriage: 25 NOV 1805 Darfield, Yorkshire, England Batch No.: M017531 So it's quite likely that, as Robert only had sisters, they were all married by 1841. Also his parents would have been getting on a bit or may no longer have been alive.

Hi Natalie, Have you tried Doncaster district. Kirk Bramwith is near to Doncaster. Jenny

Natalie Report 6 May 2006 14:46

Helen, Yes. That's the one, and I agree that he now seems quite likely to be son of John & Charlotte baptised in Darfield. I think his wife was Sarah Shaw Haley b. 1833 in Kirk Bramwith (as their son George has middle name Haley).......but can I find a marriage reference????? No! This branch are driving me mad! If it wasn't for everyone's help here today, I think I'd have given up on them!

The 1841 image has Ann Thompson 35 winder (linen) born Yks Caroline 15 weaver Robert 14 weaver (linen) George 11 Sarah 4 Benjamin 2 This is the wrong Robert as he appears in 1861 in Barnsley as a weaver overlooker. I'm guessing your Robert is this one in 1861? Robert Thompson abt 1826 Ardsley, Yorkshire, Head Nether Hoyland Yorkshire Forge Labouer Sarah S Thompson abt 1835 Kirk Bramwith, Yorkshire, Wife Nether Hoyland Yorkshire Charlotte A Thompson abt 1856 Hoyland, Yorkshire, Daughter Nether Hoyland Yorkshire John Henry Thompson abt 1858 Hoyland, Yorkshire, Son Nether Hoyland Yorkshire Mary E Thompson abt 1860 Hoyland, Yorkshire, Daughter Nether Hoyland Yorkshire This would make me believe he was the one baptised in Darfield with parents John and Charlotte.

Thanks very much everyone, for lots of useful information. It's especially helpful to know that Ardsley is in Darfield Parish (near Barnsley). 1841 & 1851 might be him, so I shall explore that branch. There don't appear to be any parents listed with them, which is a shame, but perhaps the baptisms on the IGI will help. Thanks, also, to Mary for that priceless mistranscription! Thanks to all of you, I can definitely narrow down the search, so I am very grateful. Best wishes. Natalie

Genuki confirms Darfield was the Parish for Ardsley.

Helen

Helen Report 6 May 2006 13:25

There are a couple of baptisms on IGI at Darfield in 1826 which is Barnsley area, near to Ardsley. John & Charlotte and George & Ann are the parents.

I've got a Robert Thompson born in Ardsley, Yorkshire around 1826. He's in Hoyland from 1861 Census onwards, but I can't trace him on 1851 or 1841. There are several Robt Thompsons born in Yorkshire at right time, but none in Ardsley. Would anyone be kind enough to have a look for me, and see if there's one born in a neighbouring village that could be him? I'm afraid my knowledge of Yorkshire villages is not very good! Many thanks in advance. Natalie
