I think the lads might be 'PUDLERs' (or Puddlers) rather than PEDLARs I think it's to do with metal working in some context. Possibly mentioned on a thread already somewhere. Christine |

Lynda - is the baptism from the IGI? The reason I ask is that it is usually 'submitted' entries that say the mother is Mrs ... You may need to check the detail in the actual records to be sure of it. As for where she is in 1841. If she's still alive she is old enough to be somewhere else as a servant. Some of the 1841 census is so faint its impossible to read and she may be on one of those pages. Do you have evidence of her being alive later? or could she be this one (too early for age to be given) Death: Name: Ann Phillips Year of Registration: 1840 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Wolverhampton County: Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands Volume: 17 Page: 267 or, indeed, any of the other ANNs whose death was recorded before the 1841 census. Otherwise, at 12-13, she could have been in service somewhere. Christine |

What about the one living with a family in Penn, Staffs as a FS (female servant)? You would have no way of proving it I'm afraid. Anne |

All I know about Ann is that she was alive in 1843, when she gave birth to her son thomas. Yes, her christening was from the LDS site, but it has been checked. |

Penn is certainly within range of Wolverhampton. Christine |

So was she only 15 when Thomas was born? Have you found her in 1851 to confirm the age? Anne |

I think that is Ann, working for the farmer. Yes, I think she was only 15 when she gave birth, no can't find her on the 1851, only have her son's birth cert. to go on. |

Although Ann was christened in 1828 she may not have been a new born at the time. The 1841 census (if that is indeed your Ann) gives the age 15 which could have been rounded down so anything between 15 and 19. So Ann may have been rather older than 15 when she gave birth. |

This is what I tried to C-&-P earlier... Is this William on 1861? - a brass caster: Source information: RG9/1993 Registration district: Wolverhampton Sub-registration district: Wolverhampton Eastern ED, institution, or vessel: 18 Folio: 100 Page: 7 Household schedule number: 39 GSU Number: 542899 William Phillips abt 1832 Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England Head Eliza Phillips abt 1833 Tettenhall, Staffordshire, England Wife - might be worth following him through the censuses, to see if Mum comes to stay?
