Stubborn Relations-Name Collectors?

Quite right, erica!

These modern ways in some of the FH websites scare me. They offer you 'matches', maybe AI, then offer you the chance to add the 'matchees' tree to yours.
I would never dream of doing this, though in many cases you have to be a paid member, and I'm not. And the folk who have copied are easy to spot, see the same mistakes, spelling or whatever, in the lists.

I find it less stressful to concern myself only with things over which I have control ;-) ;-)

Absolutely right but it is so annoying when it is the wrong information thst is copied time and time again.

Elisha and Elijah are interchangeable on Ancestry -they use AI -- you’ll have to learn to live with it ;-) ;-) ;-)

You can’t force anyone to change their info and as long as you are 100% certain that your own tree is indisputably correct, don’t waste your energy worrying about what other people do with their trees. It’s their problem if they produce a load of rubbish

I have found numerous so-called 'researchers' who have included erroneous details about members of my family - many of whom I have known personally. I point out the errors -ONCE- if they don't act on the advice, I leave them to their own devices,

Ancestry :-0 One of my ancestors had five children and three of them were Elijah, Elisha and Elizabeth. Ancestry struggled to separate the records on them. They would for instance show me a record that was correct for Elisha but ask if it was correct for Elijah.

I once contacted someone who had my grandparents and their ancestors in their tree. I I told them they had something wrong and asked how they were connected. They didn’t make the correction as it had just dropped into their tree by Ancestry(??). They also refused to explain the connection ( which wasn’t through that family) because it was too complicated :-S :-S

Does anyone else have stubborn distant or maybe not so distant relations they have made contact with through the site? The ones I am talking about despite evidence (one confirmed in the records and one by my mother) they refuse to alter their family trees. One in particular I suspect is just a name collector who doesn’t care but I am surprised by the other one.

The one I can confirm through the records on the CWGC died in 1917 at the age of 19 so he cannot have subsequently come back to the uk, got married and had children. The other a different one of my relatives has marries a second time and dies in 1956 according to what she has found. My mother was born 1958 and lived with her grandparents for a while when she was around 8 years old so 1966/67. The second person where the information is incorrect is my great grandfather's (the man my mother was living with 66/67) half sister and my mother could not have met her or have regular memories of her grandfather going round to visit if she died two years before my mother was born. My mother thinks that her grandaunt Aggie outlived her grandmother Olive which if correct would mean it was after 1980 as that is the year that Olive died. I have pencilled a year of death for Aggie of 1987 but I haven’t got the record to confirm yet. I’m not looking for anything I just find it frustrating when people put what they want to have happened rather than what actually has.
