Just a little add on...

I knew Dorothy and her sister Jean when I was a child. I always referred to them as the 'elderly ladies' and only now do I realise they were about 43 and 56 years of age at the time!!! ha ha!!

On a sadder note I was always under the impression that Dorothy was a spinster when in fact she had been married twice.
Her first husband Arthur Roberts died during the war just 6 months after they married and her 2nd husband died aged just 48. They never had any children. She was a lovely lovely lady with long white hair - that's possibly why I thought she was 'elderly'. Now its me with long white hair......

I didn't have the information of the second marriage (Richardson) until today however my request was for 1939 Info re Dorothy Roberts nee Stainsby and her family as I did know she had previously married Arthur Roberts.

I think the confusion occurred because no one on this thread could find the Dorothy's marriage to Arthur ROBERTS and I had asked for 1939 info about Dorothy ROBERTS Nee STAINSBY when there was also a RICHARDSON (2nd Marriage) which I didn't know about until today....

The reason the STAINSBY x ROBERTS marriage was difficult to find was because it appears to have been recorded incorrectly. I wasn't actually asking for into about that marriage but I can see where the confusion occurred.

Sorry for the wild goose chase but you lovely peeps got me there in the end. These things are sent to try us (drive us mad)......

Re the possible deaths of Jean MASON in 1974 I also found those but think I may have to look into that as I last saw Jean living in Sale, Cheshire around 1973 - 74 so unless she moved over to Farnworth very soon afterwards and then passed away it may not be her? When I last saw her she was well and happy in a lovely house living with her sister Dorothy. around 1973.

I'll have to look further. Maybe she remarried?

I've just found a possible marriage of Jean MASON to Alan LANCASTER 1978 Trafford which is the area she was living when I last saw her so that is likely the right lady. Now I shall look for a possible death in that name......

I found that marriage of Dorothy to Arthur Rees ROBERTS in 1942 However it hadn't been recorded correctly so the 2 people didn't match up (if that makes sense?).
When I searched Arthur Rees ROBERTS marriages it came up as him marrying a STAINSBY but didn't give Dorothy's name.

1st Marriage -
Marriage Notice printed in the Manchester Guardian of 14 September 1942 says, "On September 12, at Sale Parish Church, Arthur Rees ROBERTS (Sgt. W.O.P./A.G., RAAF) only son of Mr and Mrs J.R. ROBERTS of Adelaide, South Australia, to Dorothy, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs G. STAINSBY of Sale, late of Stretford".

2nd Marriage - Dorothy Roberts to Philip Richardson 1950


Regarding the death of Jean MASON - I haven't looked into that yet but will attempt to do that now. I do know that in 1972 Jean was divorced from Henry MASON so possibly a remarriage occurred?....

The change to Dorothy's name is shown on the 1939 Register as being made on 23/1/50 , so that will be the correct marriage.

Dorothy died as Richardson in 1990

There is a marriage in 1950 for a Dorothy Roberts to a Philip Richardson……..when (or if) she married Roberts is anyone’s guess at the moment……assuming the 1950 marriage is the right woman. Buy copy cert to find out

Jean does not appear on 1939 register and there are NO closed records with George and family

She married Mason in 1952….when did she die?
