The birth for Dora Smith DoB Nov 1932, was registered in Cirencester district

I will look at the romany site you sent me and try to see if Minnie's daughter can give me more information. Minnie's (husband as family thought) but turned out not to be married was Leonard Smith brn 1909 12/4/09 Bradford on Avon and died Chippenham 1971 They were also Romany but that family were easy to trace .

Minnie died 2002 in Bath. She was in care home in Chippenham Wilts before death.

There was only one Minnie Smith birth registered in Bristol in 1913, and she was definitely Owen and Florence's daughter:

Minnie Smith
in the Bristol, England, Church of England Baptisms, 1813-1922
Name Minnie Smith
Age 0 [0]
Birth Date 21 Feb 1913
Baptism Date 12 Mar 1913
Baptism Place St Philip, Emmanuel, Bristol, England
Parish as it Appears Emmanuel
Register Type Parish Register
Father Owen Smith
Mother Florence Smith

What was your Minnie's surname when she died? When did she die?
What was her DOB?

If your Minnie had Romany ancestry, there may not be full records of her on the usual sites. Her birth may not have been registered.
You might find this site of interest: https://rtfhs.org.uk/

Google AI says:
"Tracing Romany genealogy in the UK requires combining traditional record research with specialized Romany resources, as families were highly mobile, often appearing in censuses as "travellers" or "itinerants". Key strategies include searching for common surnames (e.g., Lee, Boswell, Smith), tracking occupational clues like hawker or tinman, and utilizing the Romany and Traveller Family History Society (RTFHS)."

You say Minnie Smith’s children were born in Chippenham…what were thier names?
When were they born?
Who was their father?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 Feb 2026 16:30

If you're trying to trace the ancestry of a Minnie, nee Smith, who lived in Chippenham
I wonder if you've got the wrong Minnie and therefore the wrong parents for her.

What was her married surname?

Can anyone tell me how to trace back John Smith. I know he marries Rachel Mary Rawlings (mrg says Rachel E Rawlings an error) in 1912 long Ashton. Rachel being born 1880 Bedminster Somerset and 1911 census has her living with her brother William Charles Rawlings 62 Frome Road Trowbridge Wiltshire. I cant find a birth date or place for John. I know that they had Minnie Smith 1913 brn Bristol and other siblings were born Bristol up to 1917. Minnie Smith lived in Wiltshire with all her children being born Chippenham / Trowbridge area. Thank you any help appreciated
