Ruth

Ruth Report 19 Feb 2026 07:55

yes Dora was married to David Allen ErikaH. Linda seems to think her mum Minnies sister had a unusual name like Lizaby . She did remember visiting a uncle with surname Loveridge but she thought fathers side. Linda born 1953 Trowbridge Wilts. The loveridge family at the time were in vans and tents around Wiltshire. Which i am looking into at the moment some of Smith family have very unusual names .

Dora is/was Minnie’s daughter…married David Allen

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 18 Feb 2026 22:48

Certainly not clear!
I thought Ruth meant Lizaby and Dora were sisters of Minnie 1913.
But who knows?!

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 18 Feb 2026 19:52

It’s unclear as to whose sister she was supposed to be. I took it that she was Dora’s, but we need more clarity.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 18 Feb 2026 15:25

"Lizaby" could be a family "pet" name for an Elizabeth who couldn't pronounce her name in young childhood.

Liberty Smith , 1916 Bristol, if that's the one you mean, was male, according to GRO site.

I met with Linda (Minnies youngest daughter) today and they never knew grandparents. Dora the second eldest child was born in a romany caravan cirencester Minnie eldest child was called Mary. Linda told me that minnie was born 1913 died 2002 she thought from birmingham way but not sure. She remembers a sister Lizaby (I think maybe Liberty as can not find anyone matching Lizaby also a sister Dora plus she thinks 2 brothers but doesnt know there names. I am trying to research Romany sites to see if pattern in travel. Leonard Smith was also Romany .

Ruth Report 15 Feb 2026 12:21

Sorry Erika but what does the above mean? is it for Minnies Birth. I have Minnie's daughter coming around on Wednesday to try and give me more information on things that she might remember which might help. As Leonards family settled in Trowbridge and rest of minnies children born Chippenham and Trowbridge it makes sense that they were living at 208 Coombe Lane which is Stable Cottage Atworth. I am trying also to find school records as the primary school of the time was down same lane as they were living. The school no longer exists. Thank you so much for helping me.

There is only 1 closed record not 2 and the first Minnie has error written as Seviour should not have been written against her name.

Unless the info given to Ruth is less accurate than she thinks.

Copy of the cert would clear up any doubts

ArgyllGran

No, neither it does! Probably not that birth, in that case.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 13 Feb 2026 21:36

A Croydon birth doesn’t fit with Ruth’s statement that ALL the children were born in Wiltshire

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 Feb 2026 21:04

Minnie junior's DOB stated in 1939 has also been corrected/changed.
It may have started out as 25/5/30 - impossible to see properly - then was changed to 20/11/30, and finally to 29/4/30.

However, it looks as if the November date may be correct:

Minnie's DOB on the 1939 Register has been transcribed as 13/5/1911 on Ancestry.

The final figure is a bit unclear - could be a 5 , as FMP thinks it is (per ErikaH's post above.)
However, the DOB has been altered later, to 25/5/1912.
