When I started researching my roots 30+ years ago I read every book on the subject available via my local library! One of these books recommended the use of a numbering system starting with S1 for Self, parents would be be father R2 and mother R3. Grandparents Q4 and Q5 Paternal and Q6 and Q7 maternal. Therefore Great Grandparents would be P8 and P9 - P10 and P11, PP12 and P13 and P14 and P 15. I store pages for each person under their number in A4 Ring binders of which I currently have 5. I type out the index pages for each volume. It works for me - hope this helps.

I think that doing a family tree you would normally start with yourself and work backwards through the generations.

With the set you have bought I think it would be easier if you started with the 12th generation (if you've got that far back) and work forward. Then you could give each child of the couple you start with a number or symbol written next to their name and then start a new sheet for that child using the same symbol when that child gets married.

It is always more complicated to do a written tree rather than a computer based tree although I agree that it is a nice thing to hand on. I think it will take you a long time though.

Looking at the sheets on Amazon, there doesn’t appear to be any way of cross-referencing with ‘other’ sheets.

Each double-sided sheet refers only to any given couple and their descendants - if any of them re-marries, a completely separate record will be needed………as far as can be deduced online. There may, of course, be other paperwork in the ‘set’ which isn’t illustrated, although I doubt it

The brand is Besttile………………

I found the version I was thinking of but unfortunately it doesn’t have a logo so I don’t know where I got it from.

I also dug out a record booklet I had bought and it was split into two sides, one for each parent - hope this helps.

This system is easily found on Amazon………..

I think so I think it into two files depends on its size. If you have a big tree that goes way back then splitting it is a good idea.

I think I have seen family group sheets that include a column for a ref no., so presumably everyone is given a number.

If this helps
The first generation is 1. Chiildren are 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and so on.

The children of 1,1 are 1,1.1, 1.1.2 etc, children of 1.2 are 1.2.1, 1.2.2.

It can get very complicated so make your own refs.

OK, I think I've done it, I've put a photo on my keepsake, it's in a folder called Genealogy. Let me know if there's a problem reaching it. Thanks.

It's great to do it on Genes and have it as a Gedcom but I'm a bit of an arty person and love writing and crafts. I would love to make this work as a present to my daughter. So here's hoping. ;-)

You can upload a photo to your keepsafe, then allow members to view it, should they so wish

OR……..post the web link to the item on Amazon

I've been trying to make a file system of my families genealogy that I can pass on. Not on a computer program, I've brought a set of 50 family group sheets in card form to slot into a file case. I'm wondering if anyone has done this before or can give some advice. Each sheet consists of ...father- mother, their parents and children that have come from the father, mother. I'm thinking that I may have to split it into Paternal and maternal separate files and use some sort of indexing. I brought the set off Amazon as a 3hole 12 generation family member history with 50 sheets. They're nicely done and I've brought a book with 150 clear pockets inside, with a box to store it in. But I'm stuck on how to organise it, so others can make sense of it. Any advice would be welcome. I did take a picture but I can't get it on here :-(
