I think it also depends on when you're looking as the districts change. |

yes as BMD says it does depend on which years you are looking for as they have changed over time. |

Thanks for tips. Looking for a birth of William Hill(s) c1865 in Piccadilly London, according to two census entries. |

Ancestry have a lot of London parish registers on their site. I think they are also offering a free 2 week subscription ... |

Will try Ancestry. Yes parents are William & Charlotte (nee Judd). Parents born Essex. |

Was this the same family that ended up in Northfleet by the 1881 census? |

The census transcription normally includes the rego district where it's taken. |

I found the 1881 CR and the baptism you found - plus another baptism with parents William and Charlotte. I didn't feel too comfortable with father's occupation being so different (explainable but different) and young William's age not being consistent with 1881 and 1871 (if they were in Essex in 1871). Maybe nothing, but didn't feel "right". (call me picky!) |

I can see the problem with that - it assumes Ancestry is going to get it right. E.g.: |

Well, if the baptism was in St George's Hanover Square they are not on Ancestry Parish Records as they are not held at the LMA. |

Just because the rego district is called St George H Sq, it doesn't necessarily follow that that's the church they would go to, even assuming they're C of E. |
