Thanks for tips. Looking for a birth of William Hill(s) c1865 in Piccadilly London, according to two census entries.
Not much experience of London research, luckily most ancestors from Home Counties.

The census transcription normally includes the rego district where it's taken.

I found the 1881 CR and the baptism you found - plus another baptism with parents William and Charlotte. I didn't feel too comfortable with father's occupation being so different (explainable but different) and young William's age not being consistent with 1881 and 1871 (if they were in Essex in 1871). Maybe nothing, but didn't feel "right". (call me picky!)

No connection - but OH's family originated from Northfleet so that's sort of familiar territory. And if you do end up researching around Northfleet their parish records are on Cityark. Excellent site.

I can see the problem with that - it assumes Ancestry is going to get it right. E.g.:

So is Mayfair in Chelsea RD.- it does not sound likely to me.

Well, if the baptism was in St George's Hanover Square they are not on Ancestry Parish Records as they are not held at the LMA.

Jill, thanks about Cityark, but have been using it since it came online. Very very useful site, but takes a bit of getting used to. As it happens I live in Northfleet and lots of my research is in the area. Luckily or not, most research pre registration now, so lucky to live near record offices.

Just because the rego district is called St George H Sq, it doesn't necessarily follow that that's the church they would go to, even assuming they're C of E.
In this case, I would have though St James Piccadilly was a more likely choice, but there are literally dozens of churches no further than St Georges from some part of Piccadilly.
Even St Paul’s Church Knightsbridge is closer to the Hyde Park corner end than St Georges is to the Circus end.
