Hi, I am trying to find my Great Grandmothers birth certificate. My Grandfather was born in St Pancras workhouse. On the records there my G Grandmothers date of birth is written on a few of the records. However when I have ordered birth certificates with her name in Oct-Dec 1898 there are no matches with her date of birth. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice please, as I am a little stuck. Thankyou. |

Hi Sindy, Maybe it's just me, but I don't quite follow what you are saying. |

remember 6 weeks to register a birth so born 2nd half of November could be indexed the following year eg march quarter 1899 |

Thankyou for your replies. My Great Grandmothers name was Elizabeth Pritchard, she gave birth to her son (my Grandad) at St Pancras Workhouse. At the Metropolotan archives her birth date was listed at 01.10.1898. I have looked up the births in this quarter and have ordered the birth certificates one by one, but sadly there are none that match her birth date. So either she was not telling the truth or the workhouse records are incorrect. I am unsure of where she was born, but have assumed it would be London. However it is like looking for a needle in a haystack as there are quite a few Elizabeth Pritchards within a few years of this time frame and I am not sure how to narrow it down. The closest match I have found is a birth for a Elizabeth Pritchard born 01.11.97 (1 year, one month, one day diffference) but I have wondered if there could be a connection. I hope I am making sense. Thanks. |

Have you got her marriage cert for her fathers details? |

And also we can try for the 1911 to cross-check. |

I am afraid I cannot find her marriage details (if she did get married). Again, there are quite a few with her name in BMD records. Family members know very little about her, though I would assume she was born in London. We were told she emigrated to Canada but have found no matches with the information we have. I wondered if anyone knew how to narrow down BMD records when there appears to be more than one potential ancestor. |

Hi Chris, thankyou for your help. I did order the birth certificate for the (un-named) Pritchard born in Croydon 2a 211 and there first name was not Elizabeth so I eliminated them. |

Thankyou very much for this and your help. As I say I have the birth certificate for Elizabeth Mary Pritchard b.01.11.97 On the birth certificate the fathers name is listed as Thomas Pritchard (not John), Mother Mary Ann Pritchard. Like you say there address was 152 high Street Poplar. |

Hi Chris, yes Evangeline Emily is one of the sisters with Thomas Colson as their Father. It is difficult to know for certain whether or not this is my ancestral family. I think I may go back to LMA one day and go through their births etc. |

Thankyou for your post Mary, I have also wondered if Elizabeth could have been her middle name ( as sometimes was) I have arodered all the birth certificates for Oct-Dec 1898 for elizabeth Pritchard, but sadly none match the date of birth I found in the workhouse records at the London Metropolitan Archives. I have noticed there are a couple of females born in the same quarter with Elizabeth as a middle name, but as I have not ordered these do not know whether ir not there is a link. Also I do not know for certain whether the date of birth at the archives is correct. None of my family members know either. |
