That's great news, yes always exciting when you can find it yourself. So let us know if you get stuck on the Silks.

OOOOh, I've just found them on the 1901 census - it's much more satisfying when you find them yourself!
I must look on the 1891 now - but you don't want to hear me drivel on about what I'm doing, but thanks for the help everyone.

I was thinking if I could find any brothers and sisters of Thomas Cadman I could perhaps find him on the 1901 census.
I might also look for Lillian Silk who I now know had siblings called Emily, Amy, rose, Joe and Eilliam (But the William wasn't the father of Robert Kilroy Silk who was killed in the was in 1943 - I am beginning to doubt that connection!)
Thanks for the help and guidance.

Whilst information from family members is most useful, it isn't sensible to imagine that it will be complete.

Whose brothers and sisters are you looking for?

Maybe we can help, and you can confirm with your cousin - rather than the other way round.

Thanks a lot, Madmag- that all ties in. when I tell the cousin she says 'oh yes' - haveing omitted to tell me she had an inkling! She has a photo of great grandma Harriet - I must get a copy!
I'm trying to carefully extract brothers and sister names from her - SO difficult! only just come on for a few minutes before I have to go out.
You are clever

Sigh! Thanks - it looks as if the outlay must begin again! The cousin might have more info.
I love the work ethic uncle Jonesey. It wasn't you in that TV advert delivering on your bike was it? lol :)
I must find out where they moved to from the cousin.

Yes you need the Thomas and Minnie marriage cert - no Minnie Teagues on the 1911 that are suitable, and too many Thomas Cadmans.

Jilliflower Report 3 Apr 2010 21:49

Thanks Madmeg, I got that as the birth for Elsie.
Yes, Lilian Silk was the daughter of Harriet Barker.
I don't have access to the 1911 but hope some kind soul will look for me.
I really do appreciate these legs up (leg ups?)
Jill
I was looking for Edwin too!

thanks uncle Jonesey,
Fancy that!
I wonder if your family knew them?
I was born in Handsworth - not far away!

Jill, seems likely that Thomas Cadman b 1915 was in fact the son of Thomas Cadman and Minnie Teague, we have his birth and his parents' marriage. If you have any doubt on this, let us know, but it appears to tie up with family info.

Thomas and Minnie should be on the 1911 census, you'll have to have a look - do you know how to do that? Shout if not, somebody will tell you.

Elsie's birth?

England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915
about Elsie D Longhurst
Name: Elsie D Longhurst
Year of Registration: 1911
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: West Bromwich
County: Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire
Volume: 6b
Page: 848 (click to see others on page)

Mother's maiden name not given back then.

I can't find a marriage of Edwin Longhurst to Lilian Silk.

EDIT - why didn't I find it?
EDIT2 - cos I was looking for Edwin, and he is not Edwin.

Who was the daughter of Harriet Barker? Lilian?

I have Thomas Cadman b 1915 married to Elsie Doreen Longhurst b 1911.
Thomas's father was Thomas Cadman married to Min Teague
Elsie's father was Edwin Longhurst married to Lillian Silk (cousin of Kilroy Silk!) and she was the daughter of Harriet Barker.
I have no certs only family verbal info. and after much searching can find nothing!!!
Might I find any of them on the 1911 census in Birmingham or Dudley of West Bromwich? Could anyone do a quick look-up for me please to set me on my way?
I wonder what Min is an abbreviation for? I know she was born in Ireland/
Thanks for any help
Jill
