Margaret.

Mary said she found the 2 year old who is still alive today living in a home in Grimsby in 1911 so Grimsby must be there.

Mary

Glad you got the little personal hiccup sorted. This hobby is so exciting that sometimes posters get a bit over-emotional (me included). We are all after the same end really.

Anyway, are you sure that Grimsby is on the 1911 census yet? I would doubt it. You might just have to be patient.

Regards

Margaret

Thank you Joy, Doubt whether the old lady will be able to hang on that long.
At least she knows the names of her parents now, whereras she didnt up until a couple of weeks ago.

I believe, as Keith said, the prisons would have been withheld for now; sensitive information such as that will not be shown until 2012.

Mary Report 31 Jan 2009 15:55

Thanks Keith, I will just have to keep looking! And hopefully the records will come up for me.

The little girl I mentioned in the home in 1911 is actually still alive, and celebrated her 100th birthday last week!

She still does not know what happened to her parents, and would be wonderful for her if I could find them!

Hi Mary, I think the prison census has been witheld for now, or it could be just the children born in prison that are.
As for Ethel being a nurse, she should show even if working.

Mary

Mary Report 31 Jan 2009 15:22

Thanks for your replies everyone, and your apology Babs which I accept.

I have found most of my ancestors on the 1911 Census, all except for 2 important ones.

Their child was put in a home aged 2 (found her on the 1911) in Grimsby.

But no trace of her parents who were called Harry and Ethel Mary Richardson, who also lived in Grimsby prior to this.

Is it true that prison records were not on this census? I am wondering whether thats why I cannot find them?

Also on the 1901 census Ethel was a Nurse in an asylum, if she had gone back to nursing, would she not be shown on the census either?

Hope this makes some sense.

And thanks again everyone who posted, I think I now understand how the hot matches work!

... yes, but last 14 days only

- if you go to the green tab/button at the top of this page, labelled "Search trees", the search criteria include an option to find names that were added a few days ago - anything from 0 to 14.

However, hotmatches are only compiled every fortnight, so if the other member added the names to their tree 15 days ago, and GR notified you through the hot matches yesterday, you would today no longer be able to check when the names were added.

Hi Mary,

Just to pick up on the original question, I'm not sure if it is still available, but when I first started, I could identify matches to my tree by the date that they had been added - it saved me having to wade through all the matches.

If you are still able to do this (I haven't used it for some time), it might reassure you that these are new additions by a member to their tree, and not details that have been on here for the full 12 months?

I'll try to see if it is still possible...

In answer to your original question, facilities such as Hot Matches are provided to all members, irrespective of whether you subscribe.

Hey Mary

I have to second Ozi, this site is amazing with lots of wonderful helpful people.

I do understand what you are saying about you tree, the hotmatches are only done every 2 weeks, and depending on how big your tree is this will effect how many people you have a connection with!

I have over 1100 people in my tree and get hot matches with people who technically i'm not really related to in strict terms, we happen to share a common 7x Grandparent, the same could be said for maybe 300 other people!!

Not all hot matches are helpful. I only joined this site looking for my partners sister, hoping she had a tree up, sadly she did not. She eventually started a tree on here in 2007, 6 years after i joined!

I'm not too sure what you are trying to find or whom, but sometimes the answers are not always immediate and as with everything patience always pays.

If there is someone specific you need to find or something you need help with on your tree, there is numerous amounts of data available to you. If you wish help just ask....i'll gladly help you as will many other wonderful people here.

If it helps, i too can be a little flippant on here sometimes, it comes from seeing many many stupid questions asked many many times, it's not always obvious one is being that way until you reread a post later!!! I'm not excusing what has been written, but offering a plausible reason!

Hope this helps you a little...

Mary, take a deep breath, I don't think Babs was being sarcastic, but even if she was, don't let a tiny incident rob you of the wonderful world of the GR boards.

You'll have such fun here & learn lots of stuff & get plenty of help if you need it.

Ozi.

I have actually read your post a few more times Borobabs and I am thinking that you are being very rude/sarcastic to me in your answer, I have never actually posted on a thread on this site before, because you have to pay to do this, I do not think I will bother again either if this is the response I will get.

Mary

ps I was going to ask about the 1911 census, don't think I dare now
lol

Thank you Borobab, I have already contacted the person by Personal Message, that was not my problem, I just wanted to say that I have had my family tree on this site for over a year, and had no matches until this evening when I upgraded my membership.

I have been a member here for the past year, and have had no matches for my family tree whatsoever: this evening I have had 2 hot matches after I needed to upgrade my membership to contact someone. So do you need to pay £9.95 to get any help on this site? I feel like I have been mislead
