Anyone out there fancy a really good puzzle?
I have managed to find the ultimate family history puzzle an Ann Smith!
Ann is my Gt Gt Gt Grandmother according to the census reports she is born in Tuxford Nottinghamshire abt 1833.
She marries a George Sharp(e) in 1862 and she claims to be a spinster residing in Moorhouse, in the Parish of Laxton, Nottinghamshire, her father is given as William Smith, a Wheelwright. They marry in the parish of Southwell, Nottinghamshire.
I have all the census reports up until her death in 1899, but I am trying to find her prior to her marriage, so its the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census reports I am looking for. Problem is can't seem to find her, I can find an Ann Smith with a father William living in the Soutwell District, but William gives his occupation as Ag Lab, not Wheelwright?????
Anyone who could shed any light on this or point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.
Many Thanks..........free headache pills or tipple of your choice for anyone who can help!

Potty Thanks ever so much for taking time to help. I will certainly bear that one in mind.
I think I have just found Ann's father William the Wheelwright, he is a couple of pages back from where I found George in the 1861 census (RG 9 2475), he claims to be 50 born in Cuckney, Notts, his wife is Elizabeth aged 49 born in Egmanton(?), Notts. Typically though Ann is not with the family in this census!
Why oh why did I end up with a Smith!

I have found Ann and Lydia Smith on the 1841. They are living with a John Smith so probably not your Ann, although no marital status or relationships are given on the 1841.
Edit: have found a marriage for John Smith and Lydia, so doesn't look as if they are yours.

Sue C Thanks for chipping in too. I think that looks quite promising too, Ann doesn't give an occupation on her marriage cert, so I though she may well be with her family prior to her marriage, but having just found her parents (i think), she isn't with them, so could be just about anywhere! Hopefully thats the 1861 census cracked, just the 1851 and 1841 to go. Thanks again for taking the time to help Spiral

Potty Maybe not, but always worth keeping in mind, I have learnt that just when you think you have solved the puzzle something else crops up and you have to start all over again, so will still keep that on in mind in case I don't get anywhere else. Again, thanks for taking a look Spiral

Gwyn in Kent Ah the witnesses, this isn't going to help much I think, they where Samuel Sharpe and Eliza Sharpe, no relative of Ann's are mentioned and they marry at the Registry office, not a church/chapel. Spiral

Spiral Bear in mind that Ann may have taken her mum's husbands name when mum remarried.

Ingrid in Oz To be honest with my lot I am prepared to believe anything! I think I have found Ann's father though, so maybe the Lydia one is wrong, but will still keep it for future reference though. Thanks for helping anyway Spiral

Ingrid in Oz You have my complete sympathies!- Good Luck if you ever do get around to doing it!
I think I have found William Smith in the 1851 census, but yet again Ann is not with the family!
Back to the drawing board!
Thanks again

I do wonder if this is Ann in the 1851 census, on later census reports she says she is born in Tuxford?
Anyone else think this might be the one? North Collingham is near to Ossington and Southwell, so it maybe a possible

To all who helped Thank you all so much for adding bits of the puzzle, while I may not be able to prove the 1851 & 1861 with Ann herself, at least I have found her mother, father and siblings so can continue the search from here. Thanks again for taking the time to look, hopefully I wont discover any more Smiths in my tree! Spiral
