I can find no records for my 3 x grandfather George Stacey. I know he was married to Ann(e) Stevens and had a least 2 children - I have obtained their birth certs. I have been unable to find the marriage cert. but have obtained the death cert. of Ann who was a widow on her death in 1859 and George's occupation (when he was alive) was a seaman in Royal Navy. I can't find a death certificate for him all I know he must have died sometime between April 1854 and 1859. I have looked on the TNA site but as I do not know where he was born I wouldn't know which would be the correct entry should he have died at sea. There is no census records for him or his wife. I did order a death cert. for a George Stacey but it was the wrong one. |

Thanks Ann, my George Stacey was dead sometime before 1859 and as his wife Ann had died in that year the children were put in an Industrial School, I found that entry on the 1861 census. Unfortunately the records held in the LMA on the industrial school are not available for viewing. |

When was Anne born and the children? |
|||
|
Sophfox | Report | 27 Oct 2008 18:47 |
Hi Christine, the records for the 2 children were George Edward (my 2xgt grandfather) born 1851 inHoxton Old Town and brother Walter born 1854 in Haggerstone. Their father was alive then occupation - sailor. As far as Ann is concerned I have no idea when or where she was born. She was 33 y.o. when she died in 1859 and a widow by then. |

Hi Von, have looked on the 1851 census for Ann under her married and maiden name but no luck, the same with George. On her death cert her brother William Stevens was present and he lived in Hoxton but I was unable to find him either. |

Hi Christine, yes that is my 2 x gt grandfather and they were out on his birth year. I have just looked at the transcribed ones on freebmd what other ones can I search? I also had a look on ancestry. |

Could Ann have been married previously? Or do you have the eldest childs birth cert? And no mention of a previous name for her? |

Hello Heather i do have the eldest childs birth cert. and it shows George Edward Stacey as being his father and Ann Stacey formerly Stevens as his mother. This is November 1851 but I can't find either of the parents on the 1851 census. Also on her death cert it gives her brother William Stevens as the informant also living in Hoxton. I have gone back on the census' to see if I can see Ann's name together with William and their parents with no luck. |

What is Ann's age at death? |
|||
|
Sophfox | Report | 28 Oct 2008 11:41 |
Hi Potty Ann(e)'s age at death was 33 and she was already a widow. I also can't find her marriage or her husband George Edward Stacey's death. |

Thanks Christine, I have had a quick look before but I will spend more time and try again. I suppose it could be that she is known as Ann but may be given a different name at birth. How would others get around this problem? |

Hi, I have found this entry for a possible marriage, don't know if George Stass married Sarah Ann Stevens though and is Stass too different from Stacey? Ann could have been a Sarah Ann though. |

Hi Helen according to the birth cert of their child born in 1851 it was stated that the mother Ann was called Stacey formerly Stevens, so I have assumed that they were already married. |
