Reading this I don't think anyone was doubting anyone and certainlt we are grateful for the warning.

I think what some of the people were worried about that this is similar to a scam used a few months ago where the caller gains the trust and then rings back a few days later and obtains more info, they even give you a number to verify their credentials which of course is their friend on another line.

Another scam doing the rounds is placing a note on your rear windscreen and when you get out to remove it, they jump into your car, which you have left running and away they go. Ladies tend to leave their handbag in the car whilst doing this and hey presto they have your house keys and address

Hi Peter, I wasn't inferring that I knew what anyone else should do in similar circumstances I guess my thoughts were that as it came as such a shock to ME ,if anyone else had a similar call at least it would maybe not be such a shock to them now. I sincerely hope it doesn't happen but I was alarmed initially as it was something new to me

Lulli,

I certainly did not doubt your word but on the scanty details of your original post it seemed that you might have been conned at that point. Now that we know more of the detail we can see that the warning was genuine and you took proper precautions. Nevertheless I am not sure what actions you felt we should take in the light of your experience.

Hi Joan

Thankyou for your reply ,yes I certainly hope I am not going to receive any nasty shocks when my next statement arrives but I'm sure they would have told me of any unusual spending on my account and at least the culprit cannot use it now anyway
Best wishes to you

I can't see any indication that anyone was doubting you....................................

If my word is being doubted here than may I say , If you choose to ignore my message that's fine ,it will not matter to me one iota my wish was just to be responsible enough to pass on the warning ,
With regard to the relevence of the hacker being Russian ?.. I do not know but my card issuer obviously felt it relevent enough to say so when they rang to warn me. Re. Who rang me ?, it was my card issuer who said they had been alerted by ****** CENTRAL to a list of credit card numbers and one of them was mine, therefore they would cancel my card and issue me with a new one also saying to destroy the current one.
Peter, no I did not give and was not asked for, any of my details and the fact that I am and always have been Ex directory leaves me in no doubt that this was a genuine call.
However as I say I thought I was being helpful but will certainly hesitate to do so in future ,

Lulli,

It all sounds very suspicious. I hope you didn't confirm your number over the phone.

There is apparently a RUSSIAN Hacker who is using credit cards numbers of customers so please be careful , I have just received a phone call telling me that my number was one of the numbers on the list. He/ She may be using other cards eg. Visa , Master C. etc. so thought it worth alerting everyone.
