Hi
Looking for the above couple on the1841 census. They married in 1833 in Annan Wigtown. I know they had at least one child , Catherine , born approx 1843 possibly in egremont Cumberland. Catherine married john hocking approx 1862 in egremont. :-)

Can I qualify that by saying John hocking married Catherine Thompson in 1868 in the Whitehaven registration district. :-)

Could be....they moved to egremont later I think as Catherine married john hocking in 1868. :-)will check that site out. :-)

It would appear from census that all their children were born in the immediate vicinity of Wigton - Wigton, Westward and Thursby.

The marriage of John and Catherine shows as being in 1868 in the Whitehaven RD which covers Cleator where the marriage took place and Egremont where they are living in 1871.

On the 1871 through to 1911 census' Catherine says she is born Brigham - about 16 miles in one direction to Wigton and the same again in the opposite direction to Egremont.

Thanks for that info. I've actually been to cleator moor where they lived and seen the house ...also been to wigton and Annan when I've been looking for another side of the family...Dumfries is the only part of Scotland I've visited. Thanks for the census details. Think we probably have the correct Joseph and Maria. :-)

Can anyone see Joseph Thompson and Maria on the 1861 census ..possibly still in wigton ? Trying to see why Catherine moved over to egremont or cleator moor . She married in Whitehaven district in 1868 . :-)

Trying to spot when either Maria or Joseph died and if it was in Cumberland area still. :-)
