yes, I am quite aware of those dates, and the ages for marriage


however ............... marriages between the ages of 12 or 14 and 21 required parental consent ............ and we would find a marriage


I was referring to relations outside marriage ...... which is what it seems we are looking for .................


Two very different situations, do you not agree?



Originally the age of consent in England was set at 12. However, in 1875 the Offense Against the Persons Act raised it to 13 in Great Britain and Ireland. The Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1885 raised it to 16.

In 1917 a bill raising the age of consent in Great Britain and Ireland from 16 to 17 was defeated by only one vote.



and a child of 13 would most definitely have been under the age of consent

The Age of Marriage Act 1929 (19 & 20 Geo 5 c 36) was an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom which increased the age of marriage to sixteen. It was passed in response to a campaign by the National Union of Societies for Equal Citizenship.[2]

Minimum age of marriage raised to 16.....prior to the act of 1929 you could marry at the age of 12 if you were female and 14 if you were male although in practice marrying at these sort of ages rarely happened!

if you work out the dates ...................


you say Via was born in 1905


and the daughter, you think was born between 1918 and 1922



Via would have been only 13 years old in 1918

Well, find out, by checking. It isn't difficult to look for a marriage

If her birth name was the same as her mother's, she was illegitimate...........

And are you sure about the mother's first name?


And her birth year?


Are you saying that her daughter was also illegitimate?

hi,hope someone can help

iam looking for the birth date of my dads cousin.
Jean Creasey she would have been born about 1918 - 1922 but not sure.In
i think East Grinstead.
Her mother was Via Creasey 1905 born in East Grinstead,father unknown.

Also is there a death date unless she is still alive?
