Shields Daily Gazette Tyne and Wear England 8 Nov 1875

Please could SKP look up the above for Abraham Carlson captain of a Norwegian Barque for me. I have been searching for over 30 years as he stated he was born in Sweden. I have only ever come across 2 Abraham Carlsons in that time, one in America and my ancestor in London. He is missing in the 1871 Census and my 2 x g grandmother is down as a seaman's wife. He was a ship's carpenter originally.

Hi Ann

Thank you very much for looking up my Abraham. I do have him in the census but I believe he was at sea in 1871, He married Maria Reynolds in 1862 in Stepney as Maria and family had move to London by 1851. They were still in Mendlesham, Suffolk in 1841.
I am attempting to discover where in Sweden he was born and thought may be the newspaper would mention something useful. If it was him!

Helen, thank you, What a great surprise to receive such information. I do hope it is my Abraham. At least I have something to work on.

Maria was living at 16 New Gravel Lane, Shadwell, Middlesex in 1871 and in the 1881 census Abraham is down as a Beer Retailer at The Rose & Crown, 65 Globe Road, Mile End Old Town. Unfortunately he dies [age give as 52] on 13 Oct 1885 at the same address and is down as Ship's Carpenter on the Death Cert [at least that what Maria states].
