Hi,
I have an Albert (Robert) Gillespie,
born 1895/6 County Longford Northern Ireland.

I think he died in Isle Wight in 1966 - just sent off for the certificate.
He was married to my great aunt Margaret (Maggie), on the certificate it says he was a widower - they married in 1947.
I know he was in County Longford in 1911 census
and he was in Larne in 1947, trying to find out anything about him in between.
Can anyone please help?

Thank you,

Teresa

You could look for his first marriage.............and then the first wife's death.

That would locate him on a couple of specific dates

Wow that's him!
Thank you.
I'd tracked him to Derrycassan via 1911 census.
It's not my tree on Ancestry, just found him last week as I'd done a freedom of information request to PRONI for my great aunt in the WW2 National Identity register which gave me the date she married and the new surname, which meant that the £15 marriage certificate fee to GRONI I could guarantee wouldn't be a waste of money!

Does it list anyone he went to Canada with?

And I've got his date of birth from the National Archives
on his WW1 enlistment document into the Royal Marine Light Infantry
which confirmed his father and place of birth and where he was living in 1914.

Outward journey
Gives his address as 8 Brantwood Street and no-one else on the list with that address.
He is listed as a farmer.
There is a tick however in the Canada intended future permanent residence.

The entry below him is a Mary Reid aged 22 of 63 Roslyn St
listed as a domestic

Whether or not they were together it doesn't say.
