Hello Thomas, welcome to the boards.

Before 1874 there was no penalty on parents if they didn't register children's births so it's quite possible he slipped through the net.

Do you have Thomas jnr's marriage certificate in case any of the witnesses were relatives?

trying to find birth data on my great grandfather Thomas Duggin. Census records suggest he was born in Manchester around 1853, but can't find any birth certificate .

He married Mary Ann Flood in Manchester in 1878.

His father, also Thomas was reputedly from Queens County Ireland, but I can't find anything on him either.

Any help/suggestions gratefully received
