As this is an old post I don't know if you ever got to the bottom of this, but I am able to add some detail.

William Edwin Margison, born Nelson, Lancashire in 1892 and died there in 1949. Married Edith Mary Hyett 12 Sep 1917.
Served as detailed above.

He was the son of John Margison and Alice (nee Barnes).
His mother Alice died in 1904, and as a consequence his father John sailed from Liverpool for Sydney 6 Jan 1910, and subsequently from Sydney to Auckland on 26 Feb 1911.

John's address in 1917 was 37 Symond Street, Auckland.

William's brother Walter as far as I am aware stayed in England. His other brother Herbert and sister Annie (who married my grand uncle) went to Canada.

So the only link I can find with NZ is his father John, who was born in 1853 so is unlikely to have remarried and fathered any further children in NZ (although not impossible!!!).

Hello all,

I am trying to find any relatives of Pte Margison that live in New Zealand, Auckland to be more precise. A WWI British War Medal has been handed into the Police in South Auckland with Pte Margison's initial's, last name and service number on the edge. We assume that the medal may have been taken in a burglary and then handed in by a member of the public.

I had to search British National Archives to obtain his name and the unit that he served in during WWI.
