Hmmm, very odd as Joseph appears to be with the family on the census I posted earlier?

This is all a bit confusing as it is'nt my tree but a friends and she got in a muddle and asked me for help.

This is what she has on her tree in notesunder Joseph John Lane 1878.

There is a mystery surrounding Joseph John. He is on the 1901 census in Southampton lodging at 25 Palmerstone Road. After this Joseph completely disapears! no sign of him on the 1911 census! Research however, has revealed that the family, Joseph John, Beatrice, Doris aged 3 and Florence aged 1 emigrated to Canada in 1907 on board The Empress of Britain sailing from Liverpool, (date unknown) arriving at Quebec on 13th Sept of that year. The 'envelope' upon which, Grandpa Lane wrote'Sent Joe £10 Jan 22 1904' is, I'm afraid still a mystery! there is just no record of what that was about anywhere. All I can say is that it almost certainly referred to Joseph Junior and not his father, as Joseph Senior was a Schoolmaster at Sidcot School during this period.

What we have is Joseph John Lane and wife Beatrice both born Somerset England went to Quebec from Liverpool on the Empress of Britian with daughters Doris and Florence. We have Joseph down as a Seedsman but can't find the family on the 1911 census in England so he must have stayed there??
