I have looked at your tree on Ancestry and you seem to have the same children of my Elizabeth Boustead attached you your Elizabeth Bowstead but I'm not sure it's the same family.
Daughter Elizabeth (now Malkinson) was on 1871 census as aged 72 making her DOB c 1799
Betty Malkinson 72 Elizabeth Nathey 31 Dorthy Ann Nathey 5 William Nathey 3 -----------------
7 years later her death has age 76 giving a DOB c 1802
DEATH Elizabeth Malkinson Estimated Birth Year:abt 1802 Date of Registration:Jan-Feb-Mar 1878 Age at Death:76 Registration District:Whitehaven Inferred County:Cumberland
My Elizabeth Boustead was born 4 January 1796 ( mother Elizabeth) and was christening 1802 along with her brother and 2 sisters - Ann born 28 August 1793, James born 12 October 1799 and Jane born 5 April 1802
I'm not sure these children belonged to your Elizabeth Bowstead

Your Elizabeth b 1801 Mine was born 4 Jan.1796 I don't think they are a match unless you got her DOB from 1841 census which rounded the ages down

I am researching my husband's family tree. His g.g.g.grandfather was Arthur Malkinson b. 1790 Cumberland married to Elizabeth Bowstead b. 1801 in Whitehaven Cumbria on 26.10.1829 in Cleator Cumbria. The christening details match those of your research. Census records show she was a dress maker, her mother Elizabeth (Betty) a `small shop keeper'. I have researched Boustead as an option, but nothing satisfactory. Will try your other suggestion and see what develops

Actually I'd guess that your assumption was quite likely right. ;)
No idea how you'd get beyond that, though!

I've obviously missed the obvious. It's years since I researched these people at the records office in Cumberland. The record at the church that day included 3 Boustead baptisms (mother Elizabeth) and a burial for John Boustead (husband of Elizabeth). No age given. I took it to be all be the same family . I now realise it could have been Elizabeth's father or a quite unrelated John Boustead. Doh ! I will need to look at it all again.
Always good to have fresh eyes point things out. Thanks a lot.

William Irvin and Elizabeth Boustead married 1804 Stanwix (Carlisle).
John Reid and Elizabeth Boustead married 1806 Stanwix.
So there do seem to have been enough Elizabeth Bousteads to go around.
I do think it quite likely that your Elizabeth remarried. Not that this helps with the question, but it would mean looking for her death under a different surname ...

Elizabeth was a widow with young children. It's likely she would have remarried, no?
These christenings are a little odd for having the mother's full name -- almost never done when parents were married:
Name: Mary Reid Gender: Female Baptism/Christening Date: 27 May 1810 Baptism/Christening Place: Carlisle-St. Mary, Cumberland, England Father's Name: John Reid Mother's Name: Elizabeth Boustead Indexing Project (Batch) Number: I04491-8 System Origin: England-EASy Source Film Number: 90582 Collection: England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975
Name: Henry Reid Gender: Male Baptism/Christening Date: 27 May 1810 Baptism/Christening Place: Carlisle-St. Mary, Cumberland, England Father's Name: John Reid Mother's Name: Elizabeth Boustead Indexing Project (Batch) Number: I04491-8 System Origin: England-EASy Source Film Number: 90582 Collection: England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975
Does the geography work at all?
Ah, but they were submitted records. "I" batch. That might explain it. In another "I" batch, a child of a Betty Boustead and a Henry Thomlinson, 1812.
Although ... was there something unusual about Cumberland? There's another couple of kids of an Elizabeth Boustead and a William Irving baptised 1805-1810. And a child to an Elizabeth Boustead and a Thomas Moorhouse, 1807 Greystoke. And those records are extracted. "C" batch.
Oh yikes, then a "Bowstead or Ingraham" child 1803, parents Betty Bowstead and John Ingraham, Greystoke, a "C" extracted batch. And a child of an Elizabeth Boustead and a John Barnfather, 1812 Lanercost, "P" extracted batch.
Either there were quite a few Elizabeth/Betty Bowsteads, or there was one very busy one. ;) And for some reason, mother's full names were recorded in parish registers of baptisms.

I'm seeing the same baptisms as Ann o' GG at pilot.familysearch -- James and Elizabeth plus
Name: Jane Bowstead Gender: Female Baptism/Christening Date: 06 Oct 1802 Baptism/Christening Place: ST NICHOLAS, WHITEHAVEN, CUMBERLAND, ENGLAND > Father's Name: Mother's Name: Elizabeth Bowstead Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C02015-1 System Origin: England-ODM Source Film Number: 962267 Collection: England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975
The format of all three indicates that the mother was not married.
Where is the info that she was Elizabeth wife of John Bowstead coming from?
Or do the baptism records omit the father's name because he was deceased? Reasonable to assume maybe. But is there some confirmation that the children baptised on the day John Bowstead was buried were his? Ah - she is named as his widow in the burial record?

So Ann o' GG -- we're looking for an Elizabeth who was a Bowstead/Boustead by marriage, mother of children born in the 1790s, so she was likely born around or after 1770 ... will you dispel my confusion and tell me how those last three posts might relate?
To Michael* -- we'll have no whining from people stuck in the mid-1700s. I'm still trying to find a grx2 grfather born around 1825!! I almost said two -- forgetting I found one just a few weeks ago. ;)

Just tidying up loose ends.
The death cert wasn't my Elizabeth. The one who died 1849 was a spinster.

I have a Jane Boustead b1802 Christened along with brother James b1799 and sister Elizabeth b1796 in Whitehaven October 1802 - the same day as their father John's funeral. (I have seen the original entry in the book)
John's widow was Elizabeth.
I have Jane's life well documented but I can't find anything else about her parents John or Elizabeth There is no age on the burial entry. No maiden name for Elizabeth. Found a marriage to Elizabeth King but no way of knowing if this is same couple.
Surname sometimes spelt Bowstead
Please can anyone help?
