Can someone look at this thread please

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1244420

in particular Quoy posting 05,35 - re Army record on Ancestry and post a copy for me please

(I am not actually "doing the look ups " but have offered to go through old newspaper - perhaps seeing some mention of the football playing - grandparent - there are normally loads of reports in local paper - found an old photo and report of someones grandad playing in a band for someone - and asked her to confirm exactly who the footballer was)

Last night I decided to type up a mini tree to clarify who was who - using the posters information primarily and added bits from the reasearchers

But have a feeling - that she is so desperate for any information she is just repeating names she see posted

Thank you

Renes

The son of a mate of mine has been put forward for a bravery award after rescuing an unconscious 3 year old from the sea at weekend after he fell in whilst in the supervision of a 9 year old !

The comments on the newspaper article make interesting reading !!

OOOhhh Michael , Thank goodness they were there to help.

It sounds like the boy would certainly have died if they hadn't got to him so quickly and it looks as though the Coast Guard, who do an excellent job, unfortunately may well have arrived too late in this instance.

WELL DONE to those who saved him.

Dea x

EDIT - Have just read all the comments on the article. I too find it unforgivable that these children and, especially one soo very young should have been there without adult supervision.

We can all 'take our eyes off a child' for a second or two and something awful happen, but to let this sort of situation to occurr, leaving them open to such danger should not be allowed and if this sort of thing is a regular occurrence, then Social Services and other authorites should intervene.

Would someone please look at the image of this and tell me if they can make out the occupation of Samuel.
Thank you.
Oh, and does it really say Cornwall for his place of birth.?

Name: David Lewis
Age: 15
Estimated birth year: abt 1856
Relation: Son
Father's Name: Samuel Lewis
Mother's Name: Mary Lewis
Gender: Male
Where born: Aberdare, Glamorganshire, Wales

Dea

Dea Report 14 Oct 2010 12:49

Well Fans,

It certainly seems to say Cornwall and his occupation looks like 'Cubelor man', which doesn't seem to make sense so I will have a further 'think' on it!!

There is something in pencil written above which may be a further explanation but it is very feint - looks like 'Coal mine????

I will try to enhance the image.

Thank you.
I dont think it is the man I am after though.(But will keep him in mind having no others at the mo)
I want David Lewis born Aberavon/Cwmafon (Neath reg district)Dec 1855 to Samuel and Mary Lewis(Nee Evans)

Samuel is down as Labourer on Davids marriage and Labourer in Iron Works on his birth.

Parents marriage prob took place in Carmarthen in 1849,still checking it out,def not the one in 1850 in Clun, that Samuel married a Margaret.

Off to check out Samuel born Cornwall earlier on now.

Just wish it said Conwill instead of Cornwall..

Dea

Dea Report 14 Oct 2010 13:37

Fans - It could VERY WELL say Cornwill !!

I have never heard of such a place but it seems it would make you happy.

It REALLY could say that and not Cornwall. Where is it?

Hi Renes,

Have to get things sorted and go to collect Grand-daughter but I have had a look at that thread for you and I have e-mailed you the page of the Army records with wife and children on.

Hope it helps - not sure what else you need and haven't got time to go through the thread properly so let me know and I will sort it for you this evening.

Dea

Thats wonderful - the copy is perfect - just what I wanted

all fine - it does not disprove anything - or prove the wrong family - the poster said his father disowned him - and never saw his sons children or his son

Looks like he did not list him as a child - although he was over 20 years

Perhaps only listed under 21 s -

Thank you Dea Dearest

Renes

Actually give his wifes name in full as Sarah Harriett Lavinia which is correct -

Thank you
