I smoke too,and I find the no smoking ban has made no difference to my life, but I do feel that "my" human rights have been disregarded when I am given no choice in the matter on wether I can smoke somewhere or not.
Although like Jonesey I would not smoke around people that do not smoke or in a place that is enclosed or has food being served..
When my grandchildren and their parents come to stay I do go outside for a smoke or to my bedroom and have the window open,

Dea

it's even easier here

No choice!

No smoking indoors anywhere except in your own home (house or apartment)

Hotels are now all non-smoking in rooms, as well as the public areas ............... and you will get a significant charge added to your bill if they do find out that you (or someone) has been smoking in the room you rented. That's to help cover the cost of cleaning it thoroughly, as well as a deterrent.

There have also been discussions as to whether smoking in cars should be banned

That has been done in some places, but Vancouver has not yet gone for it.

Mind you, the percentage of smokers in the Vancovuer area is low ....... a report issued yesterday said only 13% Vancouverites smoke. I would have said that was a wee bit low ....... I thought it was closer to 20% smokers

However, if you go "up country", even 100 km from the city ........... the prcentage of smokers switches ........ so it can be 70-75% smokers to 25-30% non-smokers!

Fans

you are quite right

the human rights re smoking has switched completely the other way from what it was even 20 years ago

smokers have no rights ....... yet they are carryng out a legal activity

There has to be a happy medium somewhere!

There is talk of banning smoking in cars here too, that I think would really be an infringement of my human rights, as MY car is MY personal property and space.
I can see and totally agree with why no mobile phones and believe that should include handsfree too as it is a big distraction.
But why should I not be able to smoke in my own car?

I am also for making all drugs legal as my line of thinking is that crime rate would drop dramatically as they would not be as dear to buy so folk would not need to steal so much to fund their habits..
People will take them illegal or not,so why dont the gov sell them and make money on them to help pay for services?

Edits
And while I am at it I think that we should have legal brothels here too..!

Dea

Dea Report 6 Oct 2010 22:01

Ginns would jump in here and say "-'legal brothels' - so would that give you a job then Fans ???"

FBG will you need a quality control manager for your new endeavour

Robert

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 6 Oct 2010 23:51

But of course Rob.

You asking for the job?
Any brothel of mine would of course have both male and female workers in them as I am all for equal opportunities..and any quality control manager would need to be able to check all workers were up to the mark

!

You go back to that Nevett thread and delete all those dotted lines and spaces this instant! You're right, she didn't need those records anyway (dog knows what she's asking now ...), and she definitely doesn't need dotted lines and triple spaces!

Oh, we're talking about smoking.

I think that if people can find a self-serve bar, one where no employee is exposed to the smoke from smoking patrons, they should be allowed to smoke all they want.

We have health and safety laws to protect workers from every other hazard, dunno why cigarette smoke should be different.

The customers, I never cared so much about. If they didn't like it, they could stay home, or patronize non-smoking joints, which the demand would obviously create. The employees, there just isn't a way around that one. And we're talking about low-skill workers, not people who aren't easily replaced or who have lots of options.

And me, I smoke lots. But I can survive an hour or even a day without. No.1, not. So the total ban here cut my going-out down to zero, not that No.1 needed an excuse not to go out.

Ok done it..is that better?

Waiting for another person from overseas who has no idea where anywhere in England is to come on.
Had one in the early hours all children born in and around London, but she had found a marriage in Huddersfield aghh.
I'm not that good on where places are but I google them if not sure.
I know the UK is small compared with Canada, America and Australia, but its not that small.
Reminds me of the first time I visited the US told someone I lived in London her reply was I have a friend called xxxx who lives in Liverpool do you know her?

OOOh having read the last few posts, i agree with FBG by legalising all drugs.

I have a different view on it tho, whilst i agree it'll bring the price down and the crime rate down my thinking on this is slightly different... 1 half of the druggies will overdose cos they can and the othe rhalf will be too stoned to do anything at all.....!!!

I'd def give it a legal starting age, say 18. I can't imagine anyone going into a shop for an under 18 yr old and buying the drugs for them, any decent druggie would be down the road drugs in hand as fast as the poor under age person could realise what was going on!!

As for legalising brothels, if that happened what would Gins and FBG do for 'pocket' money? PMSL....

I know, i know the exit is over there --------------------->

Well heres my opinion on what you lot were banging on about last night.......

If Government really want us to stop smoking.....illegalise it but they wont caus they make far too much dosh from it

A class drugs...legalise them and take the hit from ODs in the early days. Longer term it would mean the end of a whole lot of crime, prostitution and health care treaments.

Tax the drugs and make up for the loss of revenue on the fags!

Brothels....make em legal. Tax them too

Would you vote for me!!!!!

Lovely breakfast Sylvs. - Ta !!

Cream of wheat is not 'quite' as nice as your Porridge but with a big dollop of your home made Jam swirled in it is still yummy!!
