Thanks reggie, I have looked on there, but you seem to have to know a certain amount to get anyone to come up. So I've found the bits I already know, but nothing new!

Been to the Durham record office and found the following.

Burials at St Hilda's church South Shields. Samuel Wilson buried 22.5.1819 age 64 of Cooksons St.

This appears to be the same Samuel Wilson of my original query, and indicates he was born around 1755.

Also found a cemetery record which may or may not be relevant.
'Wilson - burial place of Samuel Wilson of South Shields, and Mathias his son died 25.7.1809 age 26'.

My earliest ancestor in South Shields is James Wilson b 1796, I also have his wife Winifred and their children William, Sarah, James, Winifred, Mary, Joseph, Isabella and Charles.

Can anyone please help me take these Wilsons further back? I do have records for his wife Winifred McDonald and her parents.

I have a will of Samuel Wilson, a gentleman from South Shields, Durham, dated 6.5.1818. He leaves everything, including his shares in the South Shields subscription brewery to his wife, Sarah Wilson. The will was proved 21.10.1819. I do have Wilsons from South Shields in my tree, but don't know how these 2 fit in. The will was amongst family papers.
I've searched high and low, but found nothing. Has anyone else any ideas please?
